Ever since Steve slipped a disc in his back in January he has been in excruciating pain... he has been on a multitude of pain killers and has been wearing his back brace to enable him to carry on snow boarding. This week he has been in hospital. He had a discectomy where they removed part of the disc between two vertebrae in his spine... This involved a 3.5 hour operation, general anaesthetic and drilling a hole into one of the vertebrae.... After his operation he had 3 nights in hospital attached to a myriad of machines:
He has got a 'clicker' for morphine... but also a packet of werthers original to keep him going :)
He's now home and is convalescing on the sofa bed... with the TV remote, some magazines and the laptop to keep him occupied during the day.
He is allowed to lie down or stand up but not yet allowed to sit or bend at the waist. He's been told not to do any surfing for about 6 months but should do lots of walking to build up his strength - I'll keep you updated on his progress.
