3rd of November was Wendy's first day at new work which meant it was my first day on my own. I decided to pass the time by harassing every recruitment agency in the Lower Hutt area whilst Wendy was out. Wendy on the other hand had to get up at 6.30 in the morning - not a problem with jet lag still hanging over her.
At work there was a welcome pack on her desk which included items such as prunes - to remind her to keep the work moving, elastic bands to remind her to be flexible, mints cos she's worth a mint to the firm, a rubber to remind her that everyone makes mistakes and it's ok as they can be fixed... etc, etc. The first day was spent meeting everyone who she hadn't already shot during paintball, then doing the tour of the two floors of the office block and the mall which it is attached to. After lunch she got her first bit of work to do - a government department audit ready to plan for field work the next day. She was a bit thrown in at the deepend! For those of you who know Wendy's job, the work here is pure audit, no messing around with accounts prep and disclosures!
The rest of the week was very similar - work for Wendy and job hunting for me. On Wednesday it was Guy Fawkes night and we went to look at a house in Wadestown, a suburb of Wellington. We were introduced to Bob and Margaret who own the house and are the parents of one of Wendy's co-workers. After a quick chat we agreed on a price and we could move in the following day. This brought the list of things that we now have to 3 - a car, a place to live and a mobile 'phone.
