Jim Beam Homegrown 2010

Jim Beam Homegrown is a music event in Wellington to promote Kiwi music. It is spread out through 3 arenas over the Wellington waterfront as is always well attended.

Wendy and I along with some friends were lucky enough to get some tickets and so last Saturday we headed out to see what all the fuss was about.

It all started at 1pm and we were there ready and waiting!

First stop was the TSB arena where we went to see the opening band, I Am Giant.

I Am Giant were the winners of a competion to find new Kiwi talent, despite the band being London based (?) the 4 peice comprise's 2 Kiwi's so thats close enough.

Next up we walked to the other end of the waterfront and watched Katchafire reggie band.
This was in the Dubs & Roots smokefree stage. They were trying to promote anti smoking but as the name suggest it ws not very successful, and there were certainly some strong cigaettes!!

After they finished their set we walked back along the water front to the Indie stage. On the way we came across these weird looking sculptures.

If you lean on them they change shape :-)

When we arrived at the Indie stage they were having a breakdancing competition so we sat down and wachted it. There was some great dancing but its hard to get on camera!

We then headed off to see Luger Boa, a very popular Kiwi band.

After Luger Boa we watched Midnight Youth, again a very popular Kiwi band that has gone big over here this last year.

They played both of their top 20 singles as well as several other songs. In all it was a great set and really got the crowd going.

Last up (for Wendy and I) were The Datsuns.

It was now gone 10pm and we had been walking about, dancing, shouting and partying for over 10 hours!!

Homegrown was a great day out and so much fun. This is one to mark on the diary for next year :-)
