We set out in appauling weather and Wendy even asked if we could go back to Wellington on a couple of occassions as the Rimutaka mountain road was not at its best, as thick fog, driving rain and howling winds were what we had to drive through. For those that have driven this road you'll know you really want to do it on a good day!!
Once we made it over the top, the weather improved dramatically and the wind dropped. We met up with Peter and Sylvia and drove to Carterton to spend the night on the camping ground as it was much quieter than Masterton.
The following morning the weather was great and we set off to Martinbourough to wander around the vineyards and visit the farmer market. Wendy was feeling much happier being on level ground and even decided she wanted to drive.
When we got to Martinbourough we stopped off for some lunch on the side of the road, under the shade of the only tree! I'm still amazed that no one moans that you have parked at the side of the road and most people wave as they drive past. Its just so nice to be able to stop and relax whenever you want.
It was nice to see Peter and Sylvia again and they are still very much enjoying their trip around New Zealand
After a lovely afternoon relaxing Wendy and I had to get back to Wellington. As you can see the weather was beautiful and we even bought some smoked fish from the farmers market to BBQ that evening for supper.
We should have known that as we crossed the mountains the weather turned cloudy and cold and so the BBQ plan was scrapped :-(
Hopefully we can have more weekends away in Suzy camper very soon
