Today was officially the first day of our big adventure.
Late last night we arrived at LAX International Airport in Los Angeles, California after an 11 hour flight from London, Heathrow. According to all the clocks it was 7:30pm October 21st, but to us it was 5am October 22nd. After a bit of bad advice about getting out of the airport we managed to pile all our luggage into a taxi and set off for Hollywood. We arrived at our hotel around 45 minutes later and $85 lighter (apparently the hotel has been in over 700 movies). We checked ourselves in and after a quick shower went straight to bed.
At sometime around 4am Wendy and I were both wide awake so we put the TV on and waited until 7am for the reasturant to open so we could get some breakfast. The day started foggy but soon cleared to a beautiful sunny day with a high of 97F, the forecaster, whilst broadcasting teh surf report, stated the water temp was cold at 62F!!
After breakfast we returned to our room and spoke to Mum and Dad, and Emma, Lucy and Tom via SKYPE as they saw we were online. Its very handy having internet access included in the cost of the hotel room.
We got the first link shuttle bus of the day up to the Universal Studios tour but decided to leave that for tommorrow so got another bus to the world famous Gaumans Chinese theatre.

We spent a little while walking along the mile of stars looking for famous names as well as checking out the hand and foot prints in the cemet pavement of famous movie stars.
A little while later we decided to opt for the hop-on-hop-off tour of Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Ironically this took place on a clapped out bright red London bus, a real head turner hear in the good old US of A. The tour took us all over Hollywood and Beverly Hills so we saw all the famous spots including Santa Monica Boulevard, Rodeo Drive, Melrose Place as well as all the famous buildings that have been film sets over the years.
After a couple of hours on the road we stopped at Farmers Market and it was nothing like the farmers markets back in England!!
After lunch and ice cream dessert we wandered around the shops but this only upset Wendy as she couldn't buy anything due to the luggage weight restrictions imposed by the airline, not me this time.
In the afternoon we headed back into Hollywood via the Paramount Pictures lot and stopped to take photos of the very famous HOLLYWOOD sigh on the hills behind.
Tommorrow we are going to take a tour of Universal Studios and then get packed and head out to the airport as we continue to New Zealand. The next flight is going to mess with our heads a little as we cross the international date line so we jump a couple of days, not just hours.
Also when we land in NZ we're not sure how we are fixed for internet access so it may go quite for a while but bear with and we'll be up and running as soon as possible.
