Central heating...

Well we've been in our little house for a month and we've decided that it's time to sort out the heating... or lack of!

Basically New Zealand houses seem to be glorified sheds... ie they have glass rather than perspex in the windows... we have bought oil filled heaters and they work brilliantly but are expensive to run all the time so we decided that it was about time we embraced another aspect of Kiwi life - the wood delivery.........

10.30 am Sunday morning our central heating turns up. Or if I'm being precise 4 cubic metres of firewood the lorry tipped it onto the drive and it was up to us to move it to the wood store under the house.

Luckily some friends of ours offered to lend us a trundler... a plastic bucket on wheels so that we didn't have to carry each log... this next picture was taken at 11.30 - after an hour of shifitng wood...
An hour later and the pile is starting to look a bit smaller - and yes that's me doing all the work while Steve takes the photo's... typical ;)

By 12.30 we were shattered and had to stop for some lunch. Bear in mind it is still technically winter over here and i'm working in a vest top because it's so warm (although that could be because I'm doing all the work)

The above picture was taken at about 2pm - these last few logs still took us almost an hour to shift.

Oh and here's some pictures of the woodstore under the house - it is about 1.5 metre square but about 2m high...

Half full:

Absolutely full - the rest of the wood is now stacked around the freezer and Steve's workbench :)

That lot should keep us warm for a while :)
